So guess what? Today, January 26, 2018, marks one year since I started Keto! I am going back over the past year, i'm looking forward to kind that me Goals are for the future, and I can't start right now! Hello guys! Welcome to AD Keto. my his name is Aaron. This is the channel where I talk about the ketogenic diet. I do some keto food vlogs, I do some keto product reviews, and I do some keto recipes. If this is your first time here, please consider enrolling, and don't click the icon clock when you do. That way you will get a notification when I upload new content thereof. So guys, it’s been a year since I started keto. It seems hard to believe. it looks like just yesterday that i started. But I wanted to talk a little bit about it the year that was, and then I want to talk a little about what my plans are is for years to come.
I started keto in January of 2017, after years and years and years of struggling with my weight, and kind of yo-yoing. You know, II think like a lot of people, I was in really good shape in high school. I quite like it was an athlete, I did basketball. When I went to college, man did things fall apart. People always talk about the Greenwich Concert 15. I think about my first semester college, I have 30 pounds. I came home 30 pounds heavier than when I left. and then that's when my yo-yoing begins. I would go through phases where I would be heavy, and then hit a point where I said, "That's enough, I have to turn it around and get into the corridor the right direction. "It's just a pendulum, for like the last … you know, 25 year of my life. Until this January when I discovered keto. You know, I saw keto – I often had to go to places like r / loseit on reddit for inspiration – to see like progress photos and transformation photos, and me thought, "maybe that I couldn't do it to me. Maybe I could do it." So I saw Keto – the word "keto" in passing.
I never really researched it. But in January of this year, I really dug in and did some research for some days, and then dove into headfirst around this way of eating. I was about 274 … 274 pounds. That was me back then. Kind of miserable. not comfortable in my own skin. Robbed of energy most of the time. Just not feeling well. And a friend of mine at work got me to keto, and me knew within the first three days what it was for me. After a very, very small bolt from keto flu, the third day of my taking this way of eating, I woke up Amazing. I woke up with a clear head, I woke up not hungry, I woke up with energy. I woke up and rested, and that just kept going. And that's the main reason I have … losing weight is great, but those benefits are just why me stay with it. The great thing about dieting in the beginning was doing what I have heard and kept my macros up to 75% fat, 20% protein, 5% carbohydrates. and I was really strict with what I ate for the first five or six months in this way.
Keeping my carbs really low, detected every single piece of food that came into my mouth, and by November of 2017, I hit my goal. I started 2017 with the goal of the corridor from 275 to about 215, and that's what I weighed when I was you know 18, 19 years old. And so I hit that goal in November, early November, and me was really proud of myself. This is the first kind of diet, quote-unquote "diet" I ever done that i stuck with long enough to reach the goal i set. and what I found was that along the way I have some new goals. I thought I was wanted to try to get to one-country. I thought I wanted to try to get down to under 200 pounds. But because he's a tall guy, when I got to about 215 I felt really comfortable, and I felt like, you know? II don't know what I need to get one-land. It's just an arbitrary number. I feel fantastic. this is the best I've felt in my entire life, basically. I interviewed for a few months now, stick around somewhere … anything in between like 212 and 217.
I didn't weigh myself daily. I weigh myself maybe once each few weeks, and I have been in this area. You know, I feel like I did make some errors along the way. I feel like I learned from that. If I had to do it already Again, there are some definitely some things I would do differently, the first is: I wish I had found the Keto Instagram community earlier in my weight loss journey. I can't begin to tell you guys how amazing and supportive is the Keto Instagram community. It's incredible. I made some really good friends there. People who have the same mindset, people who are going through the same thing. It really is something. That's great. And you know, in the beginning, I was using save a lot for research.
I still used reddit for … you know, do some research. They have … Reddit has an incredible FAQ. But I found Instagram to be invaluable, just for the support, and for the camaraderie, and for fun. There are people on Instagram, some of which you've seen on this channel already, like … there people who have been on that channel I meet through Instagram are there people you will see in the coming weeks I met on Instagram, which are some of my favorite people in the world. They are just fantastic. so that's the first thing i would guess is if you start this journey, find the support you need.
Whether in your real life or it people on the internet. There are people out there doing the same thing you do, and go through the same things you are go through, and have the same questions, and have some answers. such as you're new to keto, search … search for your people. Find … some people who is to get through what you do, and I recommend Instagram. If you there, you can find me. And that's … it's a good place to be. So this is the first thing I would guess … would have advised myself back in January: Find your peeps. The second thing I will tell January 2017 Aaron – that man, this guy here – is that fat is not a target. You don't have to eat fat because you have your pie chart to look a certain way – you know, the classic keto macro pie chart: 75% fat, 20% protein, 5% carbohydrates.
What I really need to focus on on my protein. As long as I had my protein, as long as I had enough protein in my diet to maintain my muscles, and I have my carbs low, fat could be anything. Fat is not a target I had to hit because I had enough fat on my body (especially back in January 2017). I have enough fat on my body to use for energy, and I don't necessarily need to eat it. There were days when I is stopped around the gills, and peeling an avocado, because I need to hit my fat target.
No need. Eat when you're hungry, but don't feel like you should hit some fat target because it is not a target. You're going to have good days, you're going to have a bad day. Don't beat yourself if you're having a bad day. like Lukas Skywalker, brush it off and start again the next day. You will be fine. The third thing I would say to myself if I was just start keto is to take pictures, and take measurements. I only have a handful from pictures of when I … from around the time I started keto. I did not like Photos taken with me because I am not comfortable with myself. like this one on the day I started. Watch out, there are some great dad bids coming. this is me on the day I start keto, and I fade from my face. do not have first someone wants to know what it was me. But that's me back in January and here is my from just a few weeks ago.
Big difference. That's 60 pounds off. So take the pictures because you are going to want to look back at them and look how far you have come, and measurements! I've never had measurements of myself when I started. I wish I had. I'm … The only true measure I have is me body strap on my pants. I was between a 40 and a 42 back in January and I now wear 34s. So this is the only true measure I have out Back then. So 2017 was all about losing my weight and getting down to where I was comfortable in my own skin, which I did. So for 2018, the way forward, I have some definite plans for this year. The first is the interview. There are three M's basically. The first one is the interview. I can't stay in this zone right now between 205 and 215.
I'm very comfortable here. It's maintenance. This is where I am is going to be. The second one, the second M is muscle. I'm going to try to add a few muscles this year. I do a hundred pushups a day. I have a video come on this one hundred push a day challenge I gave myself, so I did is to do it. And then the third M is marathon. I'm going to run, for the second time, the Mohawk Hudson marathon here in New York's Capital District. I running it back in 2012, done … I finished but feel very, very bad. I felt like me body is exploding all the time. I hit the wall about mile 22 because I was on the Standard American Diet. I ran out of fuel. I'm excited to do it this year, because I'm fat-adapted, and I've got half marathons on the weekend already without really batting an eye. It's … it's … running fat is something else. so I’m really excited to be training for that, and it’s giving a different path in October.
so which was my first year of keto. I really appreciate you guys all around let me … listen to kind of talk about what it was like for this last one year. If you are considering this way of eating, I recommend it. do a little research, and just dive in. It's amazing. Let me know where you are in your journey. You just started? do you think start? Have you does it for a while? What are your goals? And I would love to hear from you. So I hope you dug this video. Have a great day, and I'll see you next time. Hey guys, welcome to AD Keto. Uhh. For the second time, run the gravel .. The Mudson Howhawk. Mudson Hohawk.
